Lesson 9: Opportunities, Challenges, and Power of Media and Information

Hi! It has been so long since my last Journal, because of the Academic Break and the calamities we faced, I hope everyone is safe and doing fine! And, welcome back to my blog!

My insights:

The negative impact of social media in free speech and expression is, when there are people who try to express what they feel, they will be judged by the social media users that do not agree with the said logic. Example, when there is a political problem and User A posted a Facebook post that points out that Politician X should focus on Problem 1 instead of focusing in the not so important Problem 2. And when User B, who is a fan of Politician X, read the post, attacked User A for being ungrateful and being so demanding to Politician X, and User B was attacking User A with harsh and personal comments like "Maybe you have no parents because you have no manners." "How could you complain so much when you did not even graduate in High School." "You should try to be a politician so you'll know how hard they are working." "You are dumb." and etc.

But, there is also a positive impact from these, example, stating undeniable facts and giving evidences about Politician Q so the QQS (Politician Q's fans/supporters) could open their eyes and learn what really is happening in the country. And when they've learned the truth they will also enlighten other QQS and in the next elections, they won't make the same mistakes again and the country will have a better future.

The most important lesson that I've learned this week is about the Cybercrime, which is according to the Department of Justice is a "Crime with or through the use of information and communication technologies such as radio, television, cellular phone, computer, network, and other communication device or applications.". Cybercrime became so common that we could always see sexual harassments, bullying, terrorism, spamming, frauds, scamming, hacking, pirating and many more throughout the Cyberspace.

Learning this lesson can be really helpful in real life because we will be able to prevent these things from happening to us and to other people that are close to us, so we won't see them suffering from these. In order to prevent other people from hacking our accounts, we should at least change our password at least every two to three (2-3) months. In order to prevent others from scamming us, we should do some background research on them to know if they should be trusted. In order to stop someone from spamming us messages that might end up giving our devices some sort of virus when we unintentionally opened the message, we should block the sender and delete the messages.

Thank you for reading my blog, see you next week! Stay safe, stay well! Ciao! Sending my regards to the Typhoon Ulysses victims! <3
