Lesson 4: The Evolution of Traditional Media to New Media
Hi! Welcome back to my Blog!
For this week's Blog, I will be first posting/sharing a vlog of my own so please spare me your time and try to watch it! I might be cringey or awkward in the video but please try to focus and understand the message that I want to pass onto you, I'm sure it'll be worth it!
And now, my insights for this week's lesson:
For me, the most important lesson this week is learning the milestones in Media Evolution. We've been through the Tribal Age where hearing was the predominant and most valuable sense of reception, can you even imagine how our ancestors communicated with other people that are far from them with ears? I wish we didn't have to lose those capabilities but at least now we can still do calls.
We've been through the Literate Age where the sense of sight was dominant, I think most of the people in this time don't have blurry eyesight so they don't need any special glasses to communicate, all they need was their eyes and they can already read and communicate to other people.
We've been through Print Age where mass-produced written text so people at that time always read and read and read. That time was when many libraries started to rise. We've also been through Electronic Age where at this point, this is where technologies started to get invented.
And now, we are in the Information Age wherein global communication and networking were enhanced, at today's age we can now easily communicate to other people even if they are in the other continent with the help of our gadgets and WIFI or data.
And according to McLuhan, after the Information Age, it will push us to enter the Infrastructure Age where even buildings are controlled by the technology.
Understanding the evolutions that our technologies have been through, would make us appreciate it more. And many geniuses have made our lives more easier and convenient so we should not take it for granted. And even if we can make our lives easier we should not completely rely on those, we should still move our muscles for longer life and we should see how beautiful our planet is with our own eyes!
Thanks for reading my Blog, see you next week! Stay safe, stay well! Ciao!
