Lesson 3: Becoming a Media and Information Literate
Hi! Welcome back to my Blog!
In this week's blog/journal, I will be answering our educator's given activity first and write about my insights about the lesson after, so I hope you'll read it all.
Performance Task #3: Fact or Bluff Answers:
News Article 1:
Fact or Bluff? Bluff
Based on my findings and with the help of the Critical Evaluation Tool, this is obviously an article that contains full of false information, it doesn't have any evidence to prove what they are claiming, the website itself is looking shady and not recommendable to other people that needs a valid information. The article also doesn't have the name and the email address of the author which is not really reliable when you need to confirm something while conducting some researches.
News Article 2:
Fact or Bluff? Fact
Based on what I discovered using the Critical Evaluation Tool, the article on this particular website is full of correct information, they have definite proofs like a picture and a video to validate their article, they also have other links to support their claims, and it is form a website that is truly reliable with their firsthand experiences, the page is also created by someone who is an expert to the contents of their websites, it also contains the email of the creators which is helpful for someone doing a research.
Now for my insights:
I think, the most important thing that I've learned in this lesson, is to not easily believe everything that I see on the internet, because most of the times, it might contain false information that will lead me to a dead end. False information or fake news are all around us, in websites, in news, or in social medias, it is inevitable, that is why we need to validate it so that we won't be mistaken for what we will believe based on the information we saw. Being a bias may also trigger us in giving false information because we are not looking at both sides of the issue.
We can apply this in real life, like when I am chatting with my friends and they texted me an intriguing information, like "my best friend back stabbed me and etc.", this may lead to a big misunderstanding. Most importantly if I trust her and then find out that, all along, she was backstabbing me. But before I believe this and get hurt, I must first find out if this was true or not, I will call my best friend first and confirm what my other friend said, and if it's true or not, then I'll just keep it a secret.
But, really, validate an information first before believing it!
Thank you for reading my blog, see you next week! Stay safe, stay well! Ciao!
